Frequently Asked Questions about Elderly Care at Home

What is elderly care at home?

Elderly care at home is any type of care provided to the client at their home. It includes various types of services such as companionship/homemaking services, personal care services, nursing care, speech, physical or occupational therapy. Aging care helps seniors maintain their lifestyle and independence even after they need some assistance with everyday tasks. Elderly care at home can be provided after a hospitalization or on an ongoing basis if needed.

Why should I choose elderly care at home as an option?

Most of the seniors want to spend their golden years at home where they are surrounded by familiar faces and cherished memories. Home care is a comforting alternative to admission to a nursing home or an assisted living facility. One of the great benefits of home care is that it’s often more affordable than any other type of care. Also, home care services include a customized care plan tailored to the senior’s needs.

What aging care services does Comfort Keepers Georgian Triangle provide?

Comfort Keepers provide services such as meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, grocery shopping, running errands, transportation, mobility assistance, medication reminders, grooming, bathing, live-in service and respite care. Specialized services include providing Dementia/Alzheimer’s care and in-home safety technology solutions. Aging care services are available 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Are elderly care at home services available 24 hours, 7 days a week?

Yes. Services are available for as little as a few hours a visit up to 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Do you provide aging care services similar to those in nursing homes or retirement homes?

Comfort Keepers can provide care services anywhere needed – from retirement homes, nursing homes to hospitals.

How much does elderly care at home cost?

Each Comfort Keepers Home Care office is independently owned and operated. We encourage you to contact your local office directly for a complete list of products and services available, as well as the rates for your area.

Is there a written plan of care for each client? Is it modified and if so, how often?

We are proud of our customized care plans. Comfort Keepers Georgian Triangle understands that every senior is different and has different needs and wants, so we offer individualized care services tailored to your loved ones needs. We recognize that seniors’ conditions change, so our Plans of Care are reviewed with the client and family at least every six months. This way we ensure that a senior is receiving the appropriate level of care.

How are Comfort Keepers caregivers selected?

Every Comfort Keeper is highly trained and has gone through a thorough screening which includes a background, driving record, and personal reference check. Our caregivers are bonded, insured, and covered by Workers’ Compensation insurance.

How is My Comfort Keeper chosen for me? How will I meet my Comfort Keeper?

Comfort Keepers tend to match seniors and caregivers with similar interests and personalities. During the first in-home visit, the Client Care Manager will document the services required and senior’s preferences and with that data in mind choose a caregiver and arrange an introduction. We aim to provide caregiver continuity so that a strong bond is formed between our client and their Comfort Keeper. However, there may be a time when an additional caregiver is needed.

Will I have the same Comfort Keeper all the time?

At Comfort Keepers Georgian Triangle we aim to provide caregiver continuity so that a strong bond is formed between our client and their Comfort Keeper. There may, of course, be times during which an alternative Comfort Keeper is required or due to the degree of aging care needed, multiple caregivers need to be assigned to the same client.

What if my Comfort Keeper is sick or on vacation?

Comfort Keepers Home Care employs a team of caregivers so that your home  care service will not be interrupted if someone gets sick or goes on vacation. If your Comfort Keeper is unavailable, the Client Care Manager will arrange another caregiver and will contact you in advance of the change. Any interim caregiver will be fully briefed on your plan of care. Our goal is to ensure that services are provided as expected. Your safety and security are a top priority.

What are ADLs and IADLs?

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) include the basic tasks essential for day-to-day functioning, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, mobility and toileting. Many seniors who require help with such activities are largely independent but may require help with one or two ADLs.

Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) are considered those activities which are less basic than the traditional ADLs. IADLs, nevertheless, are important in enhancing a client’s quality of life. IADLs include such activities as shopping, paying bills, cleaning, doing the laundry and meal preparation.

Many seniors require assistance with IADLs rather than ADLs. Some seniors want someone to escort them when they are shopping and help them avoid situations that might cause them to fall. Other seniors may welcome assistance with their bill paying and medical appointments.
